Join the Office of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and the City’s Entrepreneur in Residence Jason Nazar, for one of the City’s largest Technology Job Fairs taking place on Thursday, January 26th from 11-8pm at The Reef in Downtown Los Angeles. The fair will feature 200+ of LA’s premier technology companies looking to hire great candidates in engineering, marketing, sales, and more.
The tech ecosystem in Los Angeles has experienced enormous growth the last few years, marked by record numbers of companies being started, massive funding rounds, and many high-profile acquisitions and exits. With more students graduating with engineering degrees in LA than any other market, there is no better time than now, to stay in LA and work for one of LA’s premiere technology companies.

Developers need a comfort level with the basics of Linux that’s impossible to get from on line tutorials or a book. Interacting with the servers at Amazon Web Services (AWS), Digital Ocean, or other cloud providers will almost always require command line interface (CLI) basics. Get your hands down and dirty with the Linux command line without giving up your ‘other’ operating system.
Linux can be run from a Flash/USB drive, a live CD, or within one of the many virtual machines like VMware, VirtualBox, or Parallels. This “Good ‘Ol Fashioned Linux Installfest” aims to get you up and running via a virtual machine, a live CD/USB disk, or an install to your current computer.
This Installfest is aimed at beginners looking to get into Dev or Dev Web work who need a hand up in Linux CLI. If you have experience in Linux and would be interested in mentoring please contact the organizers directly.
With the kind sponsorship of IndieDesk DTLA this event will be on June 4th from 11am – 3pm. The first 1.5 hours will be dedicated to installing Linux following by a quick CLI tutorial to get you started.
In order to best respond to each participant’s questions throughly we are limiting RSVPs to 10 people. Depending on demand another Installfest may be scheduled later.
RSVPs will need to be made through EventBright and IS LIMITED TO 10 PEOPLE. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/good-ol-fashioned-linux-installfest-tickets-25709511842
You will need a computer with a minimum of 2gb memory for the virtual machine options.
