I'm forwarding this here because I think 'Jill' is probably
the most easily contacted mplayer/mencoder expert in this
area I'm aware of, and she said this was a good place to contact her.
This ultimately relates to the script I announced on the
LampSIG list (among other places) a few weeks ago,
a Lynx EXTERN (think 'plugin') to play youtube and similar
videos for text mode browsers.
Several people have asked for an option to play the
video right off the net....

Clarifying example:
mplayer ...  http://cache.googlevideo.com/get_video?video_id=nUworKXBzdE
