>From the Gnome Women's Summer Outreach Program 2006 Project Page ...
some very interesting opportunities if you're so inclined.
"Following on from GNOME's participation in Google's Summer of Code,
we've decided to sponsor three projects in a similar fashion to the
Summer of Code, but for women only. GNOME had no Summer of Code
applications from women, and we think it's time to do something to
encourage more women to join our development community."

And if you every wondered why programs like this are necessary, this
project was featured on Slashdot
http://developers.slashdot.org/developers/06/06/15/2229221.shtml and,
while some of the truly disgusting comments have been modded down, that
still left comments of awe inspiring ignorance,
"All that we can accomplish by trying to
perform gender balances is to promote
    mediocracy from the minority gender."
and some moronic bits of stupidity masqarading as jokes,
"Oh I get it. They'll get some girls
to pose for the wallpapers right :) "
   "Women don't know about linux...because
    Linux users dont have girlfriends!"
