Los Angeles City Information Technology Committee will be meeting to
further discuss the motion by Councilmembers Weiss, Garcetti, Greuel
and
to report relative to open source software and platforms.
The meeting is open to all interested denizens of Los Angeles, and
starts at 1:00pm downtown.
Information Technology and General Services Committee
Room 1060
City Hall
200 N. Spring Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012
For background, Los Angeles City Councilmembers Eric Garcetti, Wendy
Greuel, and Jack Weiss have introduced a motion to divert scarce
dollars
away from a proprietary software licenses to open source solutions. The
money saved in software licenses will instead be diverted into a fund
for LAPD expansion.
This is a very important issue for the Los Angeles Open Source
community, and, while I can't make it, I am hoping that there will be
some of our members who would be able to attend.
Don't be shy. It's our government and we have a say in how our money is
spent.
