JOB DESCRIPTION:
Sr. Systems Administrator (UNIX, LINUX)
Our client is a Los Angeles-based online marketing/advertising company,
seeking a skilled Sr. Unix/Linux Systems Administrator with lead experience.
Their systems are comprised of Linux (Red Hat 7.3) and other Open Source
technologies, located in a world-class Equinix data center on-site. They are
established, profitable (having been in business for 4 years) and reach tens
of millions of online users every day.
The Sr. Systems Administrator (very hands-on) will be in charge of
heavy traffic Unix/Linux systems and will report directly to one of the
co-founders of the company. Candidate should be available when
emergencies arise, and will be required to carry a pager or
text-enabled cell phone for alerts. Responsibilities also include
analyzing network/system capacity, recommending new hardware
and providing support to developers. Solid Perl/bash exp is required.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Systems MUST HAVES:
5+ yrs Sys Admin under heavy traffic Unix/Linux envts (millions of
concurrent sessions & 100+ Mbps)
4+ yrs exp. planning, building & supporting 200+ Unix/Linux server networks
3+  yrs perform/automate backups of multi-terabyte storage comprised of
databases, file and web servers
Software MUST HAVES:
4+ yrs configuring, customizing & troubleshooting Apache & Apache extension
modules
4+ yrs administering mail, postfix, bind, djbdns, firewall, iptables, vpn
4+  yrs exp. hands on scripting languages Perl, bash
4+  yrs rsynch, ssh, ssh-keys, scp, cvs, security upgrades/auditing, MRTG,
SNMP monitoring, network monitoring tools
Hardware MUST HAVES:
4+  yrs hardware exp: storage, raid, tape libraries, rackmount servers, etc.
3+  yrs hands-on experience with Cisco, Foundry switching/routing equipment
3+  yrs layer 2 / layer 3 switching/routing exp, inc. load balancing
Managerial MUST HAVES:
1-2 yrs managerial exp. of 2+ direct reports -  ability to train, coach and
mentor Jr. UNIX/LINUX Systems Administrators, who would ultimately report to
this person
DESIRED SKILLS:
1-2 yrs MySQL administration & tuning
Object-oriented programming exp.
Multi-site colocation exp.
BGP, routing, Cisco certification
PERL, PHP, MySQL, MySQL replication
Windows Exchange Server/Active Directory admin experience
It's a full time opportunity, in the downtown Los Angeles area, and they
can offer a base salary ($80-90k tops to start) + bonus package, including
full benefits and flex hours.
