Hi Linux Chix!
My fiancee, Magdalena Morales, is the event coordinator for this year's
National Hispanic Women's Conference (http://maof.org/womconf2004/). The
conference will have over 5000 forward-thinking Latinas that are moving forward
into new job positions. Their mere attendance means they are motivated and
seeking new truths... and they need exposure to Linux, OOo, and other OSS.
As a long time Linux professional, I can't imagine all of these women, who
have probably never heard of anything other than Windows and Mac, going into
new business positions without being armed against vendor-lockin and open
software.
Can linuxchix do a booth at the conference? Would someone be willing to do
a workshop? It's a non-geek crowd, so topics around OOo and desktop usage with
a general stress on OSS awareness are probably best?
I'm toying around with the idea of doing a workshop myself, but I've never
done anything like that, I'm terrified of public speaking, I'm a guy, and it
would be so much cooler to have a woman do it (any latinas amoung you?).
I'm not on the list, so please reply to me personally or to Magdalena
Morales at magd at eventmosaic.com. Btw, I still have your OOo handouts from
SCALE :)
