[Chixla] MySQL +PHP+ appache install troubles

[Lorie Obal]

Anybody out there who can help me with a MySQL + PHP + Apache install/config? I've had a terrible time with setting this up on a laptop for a school project. Had no trouble with MySQL,but either I can get apache running OK, but it won't talk to PHP, or I can configure it with PHP, but I get connection denied from localhost. 
I can provide full specs of what I've done if anybody cares to take a stab at this.
